The WATERWOLF PROJECT AIMES TO stimulate children, adolescence & elderly to play & sport more by participating in diverse physical activities. By creating the Wave we stimulate those physical activities by a physical design object & developing new physical activities in combination with “online” games played by the pool. So we connect the physical environment with online gaming and creating an immersive element to the pool.
Innovation by participating a tender
Erik; “Do you have the time and energy to participate? I have seen a very nice project to improve the swimming and playing experience in swimming pools…” Koen, “uhh yes, seems like a challenge to me…” Erik ; “We have to hand in the draft plan in two weeks!” Koen; “Okay, then let’s get to work!” With a group of 7 people, pure enthusiasm and a good dose of energy we got to work, we hardly knew each other, but the ideas just exploded. Two brainstorming sessions and 1.5 weeks later, the input of 7 communication flows had to fit into 1 presentation. We were able to hand in the presentation 5 minutes before the deadline. Now 2 weeks to wait for the results…
As it turns out, the result is negative, for us that is positive, like a corona test result! Why then, we would ask ourselves. In such a short time new ideas have emerged with an energetic group of people whom I hardly knew until recently. Perhaps for this project we wanted to do too much, show too much, making the concept difficult to understand. This project “The Waterwolf” is therefore not an end point, but a learning process. Studio Stoerrr has joined a great project. A tender for a total concept for a 5 star resort in Madeira, to redevelop a plot of 16 hectare. The Hotel building, the lobby, accommodations, restaurants, pools, SPA, the Marina, outdoor area’s and of course lots of leisure and family fun indoor as well as outdoor. We’re broadening our horizons with our team and now buried deep in our dreams and concepts for this exciting new venture on the beautiful island of Madeira.

Missed opportunity for repeat business
Most hotels have a dilemma when it comes to children’s entertainment. They need a kids club for their family guests, but don’t want to spend too much on it. From my experience talking to a lot of kids club project managers there are 2 main reasons why kids clubs are not given the attention they deserve. The first is a lack of expertise within the hotel regarding what a kids club should be, contain and look like. The second is simply because it is not regarded as being of high enough importance to spend a reasonable budget on. The end result is more than often just a fairly nice piece of design without a heart and soul or the pedagogic expertise to really capture the imagination of the children. This is a missed opportunity, as winning the hearts of the children is vital for repeat business. Win the kids over and they will win over their parents, your clients, to return back to the hotel next year. Wow them and you’ll have a guest for life. Kids become adults and have kids themselves. Give them the holiday they will never forget. With a cool, fun and creative kids club. With interesting and inspiring activities. Happy kids make for happy holidays as every parent will confirm. So take the time, energy and money to create something special. It could reward you with repeat business and customers for life.
Kids love a good story, so it makes sense to weave a great one into the fabric of your children’s concept. A story is the most simple way to captivate kids. Unfortunately, most kids clubs do not tell a story and are put together by a designer who is not a specialist in the family sector. A story should also be immersed into the design details of the kids club and the activities offered in the club, so that it becomes one big giant adventure, instead of a series of unconnected activities and areas. Immersing storytelling into a kids concept should be kept fairly simple and be relevant by using local myths or legends that can give children extra insight into the country or place they are staying in. Creating fictional characters that act as fun educational ambassadors is also an effective way to add some extra narrative power to your concept.
360 degrees of family fun
The hotel kids club of the future should be more than simply an extra service for guests with young children. If linked correctly to the rest of the hotel, such as the food and beverage and bedrooms and when coupled with a strong loyalty programme, they can become a great way to increase client retention and loyalty and ultimately become good revenue generators through an increase in repeat business. Kids clubs can also generate extra revenue through merchandising, paid family excursions organized by the hotel, dedicated kids club menus in the main restaurant and kids branded room service menus. A good family hotel should provide 360 degrees of family fun. From the moment a client books, to the moment he returns home. A guest should be made to feel as if the hotel is 100% dedicated to providing the perfect holiday for all the family during every phase of his holiday.
Expertise and consulting
When the toilets are blocked, you call a plumber? When a light is broken an electrician. But when a kids club is required, quite often a design agency with no real knowledge of the family sector is used. Pool managers are promoted to kids club managers and put in charge of kids club creation projects. Without the expertise that’s needed or the correct guidance, the end results are what 90% of current kids clubs look like. Pretty design, with no real substance. Uninspiring, unimaginative and ineffective. A missed opportunity. 3 Elements that Create Loyal Kids; Capturing the Traveling Family!
Exclusive Feature: The Market: The family travel market is booming; In fact it’s the fastest growing niche in the leisure market and with over 115 million holidays a year involving kids it’s also one that cannot be ignored by the hotel industry.

Tree-athlon – a fun and exciting outdoor game that connects children and parents directly to nature.
It’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy an activate and educational day outdoors. To experience nature, using all their senses. To see, smell, taste, hear and really feel the beauty of their environment. Tree-athlon is a fun tour of the environment, with a guide and a fun game element. Guests can learn about the Eco-Hotel’s environment and complete simple missions. Kids and parents follow a route in nature where they have to use all their senses to find out the right answers. Using all your senses really frees a lot of endorphins which create an intense feeling of happiness.
It also combines exercise, education and entertainment, which all parents will think is a perfect combination. The objectives are to entertain, enlighten and create amazing experiences and unforgettable holiday memories. Guests can choose from different routes – locations and also between walking, a guided Nature Parkour (with tree climbing – branch hanging), mountain bike riding and even horseback riding.
There can also be a version for the sea environment where local fisherman take out families on the water and guests can learn about the sea life. They can even catch their own dinner and learn to cook it local style back at the resort. Tree-athlon would also create work for people living in the region, who would act as tour guides.

They had great activities for the kids, mixing quiet time of arts and crafts with active time running around playing indoor soccer and going out on the playground. In terms of food we would recommend the Kids Pass for your children’s meal options, which at $30/day for lunch and dinner is a great way to avoid having to buy them a $50 entre they may not eat. We spent Christmas at the resort, and this again showed how they spared no expense. The kids club organized a Christmas tree lighting party with carols and snacks.
